Abstract

This study focuses on a previously untapped interface between discourse and areal linguistics. It assigns a different primary status to usage at the stage of theory development. Using actual discourse data from Northern Germany, it provides an integrated comparative description of areal linguistic variations in terms of their linguistic structure and discursive function.

Abstract

The volume contains a selection of papers originally presented at the symposium on “Areal patterns of grammaticalization and cross-linguistic variation in grammaticalization scenarios” held on 12-14 March 2015 at Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. The papers, written by leading scholars combining expertise in historical linguistics and grammaticalization research, study variation in grammaticalization scenarios in a variety of language families (Slavic, Indo-Aryan, Tibeto-Burman, Bantu, Mande, "Khoisan", Siouan, and Mayan). The volume stands out in the vast literature on grammaticalization by focusing on variation in grammaticalization scenarios and areal patterns in grammaticalization. Apart from documenting new grammaticalization paths, the volume makes a methodological contribution as it addresses an important question of how to reconcile universal outcomes of grammaticalization processes with the fact that the input to these processes is language-specific and construction-specific.

Abstract

Govor sela Vratarnica - odin iz južnoslavjanskich govorov, rasprostranennych vok rug serbsko-bolgarskoj političeskoj granicy. Govory, nachodjaščiesja s zapadnoj (serbskoj) storony etoj granicy, tradicionno v jugoslavskoj dialektologii nazyvajutsja timoksko-lužnickim i i otnosjatsja k serbochorvatskomu jazyku, esli ich nositeli opredeljajut sebja kak etničeskie serby, i k bolgarskom u jazyku, esli ich nositeli sčitajut sebja bolgarami. Govory s bolgarskoj storony granicy polučili v bolgarskoj dialektologii nazvanie "zapadnye perechodnye govory bolgarskogo jazyka" [Stojkov 1962: 108-112]. Nesomnennoe genetičesko e edinstvo etich govorov pozvoljaet rassmatrivat'ich (vopr eki složivšimsja nacional'nym tradicijam) ne izolirovanno drug ot druga, no kak celostnoe lingvističesko e obrazovanie ranga dialekta, prinadležaščee odnovremenno dvum nacional'nym kollektivam.

Abstract

This book focuses on sustainable energy systems. While several innovative and alternative concepts are presented, the topics of energy policy, life cycle assessment, thermal energy, and renewable energy also play a major role. Models on various temporal and geographical scales are developed to understand the conditions of technical as well as organizational change. New methods of modeling, which can fulfil technical and physical boundary conditions and nevertheless consider economic environmental and social aspects, are also developed.
