Abstract

"The book discusses various challenges and solutions related to the coordination of health and welfare services. Coordination is central to creating integrated services for users with complex needs. In order to understand the challenges and opportunities associated with creating such services, one needs knowledge related to organizations and the organizational context. The book's chapters takes on an organizational perspective where patterns and explanations are sought in formal and informal structures, processes and culture. The users’ need for services often cross established boundaries, both organizational and professional. The authors highlight the possibilities and limitations of some selected solutions that will help to cut across or break down such boundaries. Examples of such solutions are user involvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, team organizations, coordinators, standardization and patient pathways, digitization and decision-making tools for employees who work in the services. One chapter summarizes three different theoretical research approaches for analyzing coordination and collaboration. The target group is researchers, university and college employees and students of the health and welfare sector. The book also will be of interest for user organizations as well as administrative and professional decision-makers in public and private businesses."

Abstract

"The health sector is a complex and dynamic conglomerate of services at local, regional and national levels. How to balance different considerations between new medical-professional knowledge, controlling expenses and local interests are among the permanent challenges facing political bodies when planning and structuring the services. The book is based upon institutionalist organisation theories, referring back to classic texts as well as present-day analyses. By taking a long-term perspective, and analysing one Norwegian county as a case study, the author addresses questions about how conflicts on hospital structure seemingly have been solved, and how the introduction of new management forms have changed the sector. One of the issues is how, in a 40 years’ perspective, different interest groups have seen their influence over health services and management forms have changed. In contrast to hypotheses that medical doctors would see their influence becoming reduced, the analyses show how medical actors, in an alliance with management consultants, have become more influential when innovations in health work and eventually organisation models are introduced. Regional political bodies and local community interests have lost much of their former role in restructuring processes. At the end of the book, the author makes some hypotheses about how health services will develop in the interface between ideas of a centralised, modern, high tech hospital model on one hand, and local and home based services on the other. These developments will in a nearby future most likely restructure the health sector once more. "

Abstract

"In recent years, organizations and authorities in Norway have put a critical spotlight on parenting practices among non-Western immigrants, based on a concern for young people's autonomy and self-determination. The purpose of this book – which deals with parenting and social control in immigrant families from Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka – is to shed light on on this collision between different family norms and practices from different perspectives, and thus help to understand why family relations and social control have become a topic of contention in today's multicultural Norway. The books starting point is a sociological perspective on cultural differences, social control and change in a migration context.A key point of focus in the empirical analyzes are parental restrictions in young people's social life. How common are such restrictions within different groups? What significance do factors such as religiosity and socio-economic resources play in the exercise of social control? And what are the consequences for children's social participation, mental health and well-being? One aim is to contribute systematic quantitative knowledge on such issues. At the same time, the book contributes to a more qualitative understanding of people’s experiences and actions. How do parents from countries like Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka experience raising children and young people in Norway? What concerns have they had regarding their children’s encounters with various parts of Norwegian society? And how do young people navigate between different expectations and demands from the families and communities on the one hand and among their peers and the larger society on the other? We focus on the question of social change. Is the organization of family relationships and the exercise of social control within immigrant populations characterized by continuity or change? And what kind of mechanisms drive such changes forward? The book, which is published as part of the Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study in Norway, will illuminate these questions using quantitative data from a comprehensive survey of 16-17 year olds in Oslo and Akershus, as well as qualitative interviews – individually and in groups – with parents, adolescents and young adults with immigrant backgrounds as well as people in public help services and NGOs."

Abstract

"At the time of this book’s publication, almost seven years have passed since the dramatic and brutal terror attacks at Norway’s Government Headquarters in Oslo and the island of Utøya on 22 July 2011. How have we coped during this time? Which values have been important? Have we managed to protect the ideals of democracy, openness and humanity? And not least: Who is this ""we"" that we are referring to?This scholarly anthology includes articles from researchers associated with the project NECORE (Negotiating Values: Collective Identities and Resilience after 22 July) and other researchers whose work is closely associated with the project. They give us insights, opinions and sharp perspectives on not just 22 July, but also about Norway today, about values, identities and resilience in Norwegian society in the wake of the terror attacks. An important backdrop for the book and the project is the assertion that, as the events themselves recede into the past, it is even more important to focus on what the terror events have led to and how we can learn from them. In a world where terrorism has become an all too common part of political reality, it is crucial that we understand how we ought to think about terror, and how we as a society encounter it."

Abstract

"The purpose of this study was to examine factorial, convergent, discriminant, and criteriavalidity of a multi-dimensional scale measuring coaching efficacy (Feltz, Chase, Moritz, &Sullivan, 1999). The sample consisted of 281 Norwegian grassroot football coaches taking partin two data collections (across the football season) within the Norwegian arm of the internationalPAPA project (intervention group, n = 193) and control group, n = 88). Latent variablemodeling supported a 4-factor model reflecting Motivation efficacy, Strategy efficacy, Techniqueefficacy and Character efficacy. An introductory ESEM analysis of the 24-item coachingefficacy scale yielded an acceptable solution after omitting two items. A parceling approach ofthe twenty-two items were then converted into eleven parcels to examine factorial validity andtime and group invariance. The four-factor model based on parcels obtained good fit indices:(S-B χ2 = [df = 29, n = 222] = 38.622, p < .011 (ns.); RMSEA = .039; 90% (CI = .000–.068);CFI = .99; SRMR = .023). Moreover, we obtained strong support for time invariance for amerged solution of the two groups of coaches. Invariance across time for the interventionand control group separately was supported at time 1, but not at time 2. Satisfactorily convergent, discriminant, and criteria validity were also supported. The scale needs further validationbefore use in intervention studies."

Abstract

Sporting and sport psychological accomplishments are an important part of Scandinavian culture. Psychological factors have been demonstrated to have a major impact on both participation and achievements in sport. Sport psychology is about precisely these factors. The diversity of sport psychology research in Scandinavia is presented for the first time in this scholarly volume. Contributors from key sport psychology research teams in Sweden, Denmark and Norway present resarch covering a wide range of issues in the book’s twelve chapters. By publishing the contributions collectively as an Open Access anthology, the authors wish to reach researchers in the field of sport psychology, sport psychology advisers and professionals throughout Scandinavia. The volume will also be relevant to anyone with any interest in sport. The editors of the book are Tommy Haugen and Rune Høigaard, who are both affiliated with the Department of Public Health, Sport and Nutrition in the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences at the University of Agder.

Abstract

"The aim of the study was to examine the extent in which verbal feedback (positiveand negative) affected the collective efficacy, and to what extent an increase in collective efficacywould affect the propensity to social loafing in a sport group context where individualeffort is not perceived as identifiable. 66 sports students conducted an interval of one-minutemaximum effort on the bike ergometer under individual conditions. Participants were thenrandomized into teams in which half of them received positive feedback, while the othersreceived negative feedback, before they then carried out three trials under collective conditions. The participants’ belief in the team’s victory chance was reported ahead of the secondand third attempt. The results show that feedback affected the collective efficacy, but there wasa non-significant difference in performance between the groups."

Abstract

"The study aim was twofold: 1) Review basic principles of test-retest reliability, and 2) investigate the reliability of a test procedure of a one-minute time trial on an ergometerbicycle in relatively well-trained young adults. The subjects (N = 12) completed three “all-out”intervals on the bicycle ergometers where average watt produced was recorded. The resultsof the experiments showed no significant mean differences across tests, high ICC (.996), lowCV, TE, and SEM. The findings suggested that the ergometer test had the ability to produceaccurate and stable measurements. It also indicated that measurement biases that affected theresults did not seem to occur."

Abstract

"The aim of this study was to investigate characteristics of situations when top refereesin soccer make an incorrect decision. Two expert panels, consisting of four top referees andfour top players respectively, assessed 98 potential penalty shootout situations in Tippeligaen(Norwegian Premier League). The situations in which all the expert panels considered that thematch referee made an incorrect decision (N = 14) were then analyzed based on recommendedtechnical refereeing criteria and guidelines, as the referee’s distance to, angle to and insight intothese penalty situations. The results revealed that in 11 of these 14 situations the referee hada greater distance than recommended. Furthermore, both the angle and insight were only ofmedium or poor nature. This may indicate that the referee had limited basis when assessingthese situations, and subsequently landed on a wrong decision. Findings also showed that refereeswere more likely to go in favor of high status teams. This will be a topic for discussion inthis article, based on the theory of dealing with mistakes and social pressure."

Abstract

"Mindfulness has become a popular tool for athletes, but the knowledge about theexact associations between trait mindfulness and key performance variables are lacking. Thisis especially problematic for athletes competing at a higher level where minor costs of a trait oran intervention could easily outweigh the benefits. In this study we investigated the associationbetween self-reported level of mindfulness and performance on two PC based tests of inhibitorycontrol on forty-two professional soccer players. The results showed that the observationfacet of mindfulness was associated with better performance on one of the tests, while thenon-judgement facet was associated with lower performance on both tests due to more impulsiveresponding. These findings suggest that trait mindfulness and inhibitory control is related, but that the relationship may not only be beneficial."
