In the territory of historical Tyrol (i.e., the present Austrian province of Tyrol, South Tyrol, and Trentino), a huge number of Latin texts has been written from the Early Middle Ages to the 21th century. A good part of this literature has been preserved as manuscripts or printed books in the libraries and archives of monasteries, schools, universities, cities and other institutions. The present history of literature for the first time gives a systematic overview of these writings and describes them according to historical eras and literary genres. The single eras are separated from each other by events that had a massive impact on the conditions of production and reception of Latin literature in Tyrol. Each era is first generally characterised in historical and cultural terms; after that, its Latin poetry, rhetoric and eloquence, historiography, biography, epistolography, theology and other ecclesiastic writings, philosophy, medicine, natural sciences, law and jurisprudence are treated in single chapters. The literary history consists of two volumes. The first one includes the eras „From the beginnings to the unification of Tyrol under Count Meinhard II. (1285)“, „From the unification of Tyrol to the death of Emperor Maximilian I. (1519)“, „The 16th century until the death of Ferdinand II., Archduke of Further Austria (1595)“, and „The 17th century until the extinction of the Tyrolian line of the Habsburgs (1665) and the foundation of the University of Innsbruck (1669)“. The second volume comprises the eras „From the foundation of the University of Innsbruck to the abolition of the Jesuit order (1773)“, „From the expulsion of the Jesuits to the revolution of the year 1848“, and „From the revolution of 1848 until the present day“ as well as the bibliography and the indexes.

A reasonable evolution model is indispensable for the comprehensibility and justification of translation policy decisions. On the one hand, this model should take into account the general objectives of protecting a regional or minority language and, on the other, the findings of translation studies and the best practices of the translation industry. On the basis of these assumptions, the author derives possible lines of development for the various areas of translation policy with the help of the maturity model derived from organisational management. He also develops a comprehensive evaluation procedure: the Translation Policy Metrics Model (TPM). The exemplary implementation of this model is based on the example of the minority region of South Tyrol using two surveys, several personal interviews with leading personalities in the field of translation as well as by examining the existing sources of legislation. Peter Sandrini is a research assistant at the Institute for Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck. His research focuses on legal translation, translation technology and terminology (www.petersandrini.net).

While the first volume presented a younger son of a family of Tyrolese nobility, who strived after social advancement throughout Europe and who succeeded to act the part of a special advisor in service of the sovereign, the documents of his life in the second volume concentrate primarily on feuds, captivities and resolution of conflicts in Tyrol. The conflict over the heritage of Hauenstein leads to captivity, provisional release, appeal to the king, further imprisonment and humiliating submission to the duke of Tyrol. Finally Oswald is granted a reprieve and acquires the property of Hauenstein.

The book depicts the ideological foundations and political practice of pan-German student fraternities (Burschenschaften) in Austria after 1945. The Burschenschaften’s post-war volkish (German) nationalism and interwovenness with the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) receive particular attention.

The hundred years from 1750 to 1850 were characterised by great changes, often associated with even greater catchphrases. In this study, these profound and radical changes are being looked at from a special point of view, from the perspective of a periphery that is usually not considered to be typical of the transformation processes of the so called saddle period. Multiple sources make it obvious that, on the one hand, the lived in worlds of the inhabitants of the Tyrolean Stubaital were widely and inevitably affected by “big history“ (ranging from reforms of the educational system to the Napoleonic Wars and the beginning industrialisation); but that they still were, on the other hand, presented with scopes of action which they dealt with in different ways.

Today, the teaching of knowledge is facing a twofold challenge: the demand for comprehensibility despite the high complexity of contents and the achievement of acceptable results in school in situations of ever-growing diversity. This opens up new research areas for linguistics: on the one hand, the communicative acts of members of a language community in everyday life and in specialized settings; on the other hand, the variable contexts of the speech acts, which require the co-orientation of social actors, which in turn also needs to be acquired and practiced like the languages with their formal and structural characteristics. Based upon these premises, this volume presents findings and theoretical approaches which make corpus findings available for the study and the didactics of language teaching concerning the the three school languages ??of German, Italian and English. Special emphasis is put on the varieties of the German language in South Tyrol and the interface problem.
