Abstract

This book describes the concept of content marketing in a Norwegian context. Its subtitle, meaning “concept, business models, legal aspects, ethics and practice”, is comprised of key words for each chapter. The concept chapter includes trends and historical roots, as well as a discussion of the definition of ‘content marketing’. The book is concerned about the practice of content marketing in a context where media are digitalized, and how digitalization is linked to changes in business models for the media. However, content marketing practices are challenging the legal framework as well as ethical restrictions in several ways. One example is freedom of expression concerning commercial content. Another is the debate on content marketing as native advertisements in editorial products, and the risk of mixing such commercial content with journalism. This book is the first to be published on this topic in the Norwegian language based on scientific research and including many examples from Norwegian practices.

Abstract

Freedom of speech is a fundamental human right and a core value in liberal democracies. It is also, however, one of our time’s most contested issues, constantly claimed to be either too wide-ranging, at the peril of vulnerable minority groups, or too limited, restricting dissent and democratic deliberation. Employing a sociological lens on the dynamics of the public sphere, this book investigates how the boundaries of free speech are contested and negotiated through social processes which silence certain groups and opinions while amplifying others. The book focuses on key topics in current free speech debates – immigration, religion and culture. Drawing on population-representative survey data, media analysis and in-depth interviews, the authors paint a broad picture of how boundaries of free speech are defined and maintained, experienced and challenged, in the rapidly changing Norwegian public sphere.

Abstract

"The first issue of this new scientific writing series, Skriftkultur, is about current trends in writing cultural studies as a field of research and academic study. This edition focuses on the concept of ‘writing culture’ in a broad literacy-related context. Special attention is paid to the New Norwegian (Nynorsk) writing culture. What is meant by the concept of ‘writing culture’? What are the typical traits and characteristics of writing culture today? What is the relation between writing culture and literacy? Is there a distinct New Norwegian educational tradition? And is it now time to end the relationship between New Norwegian and dialects in written language instructions? In the issue’s seven original research articles, the contributors discuss different approaches to written culture and written culture studies, nationally and internationally, in both historical and contemporary contexts"

Abstract

This anthology addresses ethical challenges that arise within the field of Internet research. Among the issues discussed in the book are the following: When is voluntary informed consent from research subjects required in using the Internet as a data source? How may researchers secure the privacy of research subjects in a landscape where the traditional public/private distinction is blurred and re-identification is a recurring threat? What are the central ethical and legal aspects of Internet research for individuals, groups, and society?

Abstract

"How do Norwegians feel about religious humour? What do comedians take into consideration when producing and performing jokes about religion? How is humour about religion presented in television comedies, film comedies and men’s magazines? How do different religious groups relate to humour about their own faith? The relationship between religion and humour can be contentious – religion is not always something to make light of – and yet, religion and humour are in dialogue, negotiating ways to accommodate each other. There is also much humour to be found in religious milieus. This anthology addresses encounters between humour and religion in a variety of contexts. The book consists of contributions written by people from different disciplines with expertise in religion, media and humour. Practitioners are represented through interviews with stand-up comedians. The book is aimed at everyone interested in the role of religion in humoristic settings, as well as professionals in the fields of media and religion, politicians and other decision-makers, and students in social sciences, religious studies and media studies."
