"This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the 2016 Australian federal election. Won by the Liberal–National Coalition by the slimmest of margins, the result created a climate of political uncertainty that threatened the government’s lower house majority. While the campaign might have lacked the theatre of previous elections, it provides significant insights into the contemporary political and policy challenges facing Australian democracy and society today. In this, the 16th edited collection of Australian election studies, 41 contributors from a range of disciplines bring an unprecedented depth of expertise to the 2016 contest. The reuse of process models is a promising technique to reduce modelling effort. Yet, finding similar models in large model collections is not feasible manually. A search functionality for relevant models, which can be used as a template, is therefore helpful. This work describes multiple techniques for finding similar process models and acitvities in process model repositories.

Die Vision des Endzustands klingt verlockend: Kunden profitieren von innovativen Produkten und Dienstleistungen, die nicht nur effizienter erbracht werden, sondern eine neue Dimension von Kundenerlebnissen eröffnen. Doch unternehmensweite Prozesslandkarten und Prozessmodelle sind nur ein Abbild der Realität. Um die Wirksamkeit des Prozessmanagements zu erhöhen, braucht es eine Brücke zum operativen Geschäft. Prozessintelligenz bietet hierfür hilfreiche Ansatzpunkte. Die Process-Management-Studie 2015 des Instituts für Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften ZHAW School of Management and Law widmet sich diesem Thema und beleuchtet Status quo und Erfolgsmuster. Abstract

This collection of essays explores the metaphysical thesis that the living world is not ontologically made up of substantial particles or things, as has often been assumed, but is rather constituted by processes. The biological domain is organized as an interdependent hierarchy of processes, which are stabilized and actively maintained at different timescales. Even entities that intuitively appear to be paradigms of things, such as organisms, are actually better understood as processes. Unlike previous attempts to articulate processual views of biology, which have tended to use Alfred North Whitehead’s panpsychist metaphysics as a foundation, this book takes a naturalistic approach to metaphysics. It submits that the main motivations for replacing an ontology of substances with one of processes are to be looked for in the empirical findings of science. Biology provides compelling reasons for thinking that the living realm is fundamentally dynamic and that the existence of things is always conditional on the existence of processes. The phenomenon of life cries out for theories that prioritize processes over things, and it suggests that the central explanandum of biology is not change but rather stability—or, more precisely, stability attained through constant change. This multicontributor volume brings together philosophers of science and metaphysicians interested in exploring the consequences of a processual philosophy of biology. The contributors draw on an extremely wide range of biological case studies and employ a process perspective to cast new light on a number of traditional philosophical problems such as identity, persistence, and individuality.

Abstract

All over the world, there is a huge and ever-increasing interest in the development and application of optical and spectroscopic techniques to characterize fluids in engineering and science. The large number of review articles that are frequently published in these areas is evidence of this. Recent examples have focused on applications of optical diagnostics to gas phase environments, liquids, and multiphase systems. A key feature of such light-based methods is that they are usually non-intrusive, and hence they do not notably affect the system under investigation. As a consequence, optical techniques have been developed for many decades and represent the gold standard in many fields. The list of individual techniques utilizing absorption, refraction, diffraction and scattering effects is long and so is the list of the parameters that can be determined. The latter includes macroscopic properties such as temperature, chemical composition, thermophysical quantities, and flow velocity, but molecular information, e.g., about isomerism and intermolecular interactions, can also be obtained. This Special Issue entitled “Optics and Spectroscopy for Fluid Characterization” aims to demonstrate the breadth of the field in terms of methodology, as well as applications.

Abstract

Powder-based materials and treatment technologies rank high in contemporary scientific-technical progress due to their numerous significant technoeconomic qualities. Sintering of such materials allows saving on materials and lowering the cost price of the product, as well as manufacturing complex composite materials with unique combinations of qualities. Materials of record high values of some physic-mechanical and also biochemical characteristics can be obtained owing to structural peculiarities of super dispersed condition. Sintering of functional materials for innovative perspectives in automotive and aeronautical engineering, space technology, lightweight construction, mechanical engineering, modern design, and many other applications requires established relationship in the materials-process-properties system. Therefore, the industry being interested in understanding theoretical modeling, and control over behavior of such powdered materials has promoted the research activities of this manuscript's authors.
