Figure protéiforme s'il en est, le poète écossais Robert Burns (1759-1796) est inspiré par les Révolutions américaine et française et formé par les Lumières écossaises ; se plaçant à la périphérie de la culture dominante, pour mieux la dominer, il brouille sciemment les frontières linguistiques, culturelles et littéraires. Longtemps considéré comme chantre naïf, sans culture, de la vie humble des paysans écossais, Burns est, sans doute, le premier des grands poètes romantiques. Cet ouvrage analyse l'évolution de la réception de ses œuvres, au gré des préoccupations individuelles ou nationales. Tout au long du XXe siècle, la critique a en effet corrigé nombre d'idées fausses. Les vers fescennins du barde (la partie licencieuse et illégitime de l'œuvre), longtemps en rupture avec l'horizon d'attente à la fois de la critique et des lecteurs, et cachés au public jusqu'en 1959, font l'objet d'une étude approfondie, afin de compléter le portrait esquissé jadis, en 1893, par le poète et universitaire français Auguste Angellier.

Sprache besitzt eine ihr innewohnende Bildmacht, sie evoziert bei ihrem Rezipienten unwillkürlich Vorstellungsbilder. Dies gilt besonders für poetische Sprache. Unter Einbezug rezeptionsästhetischer Ansätze zeigt die Studie anhand des Beispiels der Figurendarstellung die Charakteristika und Differenzen der Bildprogramme mittelhochdeutscher Erzähltexte auf. Die Untersuchung geht dabei von der These aus, dass die Methoden der Bildevokation an das ihnen zugrunde liegende Medium gebunden sind. Untersucht werden deshalb zum einen Texte semioralen Ursprungs und zum anderen solche, die konzeptioneller Schriftlichkeit zuzurechnen sind. Abschließend stellt sich die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von ‚histoire‘ und ‚discours‘ im Medienwechsel von Mündlichkeit zu Schriftlichkeit. Mit der Bewusstwerdung der Sprache scheint gleichzeitig eine Verschiebung des Schwerpunktes von der Erzählung zum Erzählen stattzufinden.

The reception of newcomer youngsters by schools constitutes a policy issue in Europe already for decades. This book deals with how practitioners in Rotterdam and Barcelona apply existing policies for the reception of immigrant students, the dilemmas they face and the strategies they design as a response. Using a combination of discursive, organizational, and ethnographic research techniques, the author studies to what extent practices conform to policies, and to what extent they diverge from them in basic principles. This book analyzes the influence of institutional frameworks on the practices of policy implementers by comparing Netherlands and Spain -specifically Barcelona and Rotterdam-, two cases which are very different in terms of their national policies of integration, their educational systems and their programs for educational reception. Much can be learned over the reception practices of secondary schools, but above all over how policy gaps work, and the common and specific features that they present across different countries. In short, this is an indispensable reading for scholars, policymakers and practitioners alike, which offers new insights about the policy-practice gap and the role of policy practitioners in it.
