Abstract

Three dimensional modeling and visualization of environments is an increasingly important problem. This work addresses the problem of automatic 3D reconstruction and we present a system for unsupervised reconstruction of textured 3D models in the context of modeling indoor environments. We present solutions to all aspects of the modeling process and an integrated system for the automatic creation of large scale 3D models.

Abstract

This thesis describes the detection and reconstruction of traffic accidents with event data recorders.The underlying idea is to describe the vehicle motion and dynamics up to the stability limit by means of linear and non-linear vehicle models. These models are used to categorize the driving behavior and to freeze the recorded data in a memory if an accident occurs.Based on these data, among others the vehicle trajectory is reconstructed with fuzzy data fusion. The side slip angle which is a crucial quantity describing the vehicle stability is estimated with non-linear state observers and Kalman-Filters. The methodologies presented may lead from accident reconstruction considered here to accident avoidance.

Abstract

Sowohl bei der Fertigung industrieller Zwischenprodukte als auch bei der Produktion von Konsumgütern treten vielerlei glänzende bzw. spiegelnde Oberflächen auf. Während bei technischen spiegelnden Oberflächen, wie z.B. Press- bzw. Gusswerkzeugen oder optischen Bauelementen, die Funktionalität des Werkstücks durch Oberflächendefekte gefährdet ist, stehen bei Produkten für den Endkunden, wie z.B. Armaturen, Musikinstrumenten oder lackierten Autokarosserien, ästhetische Aspekte im Vordergrund. Gerade im Bereich der Automobilindustrie sind die Qualitätsansprüche der Endkunden in den letzten Jahren enorm gestiegen, so dass marktübliche Verfahren zur Qualitätssicherung allmählich an ihre Grenzen stoßen.Ein Messverfahren, das den gestiegenen Anforderungen an Genauigkeit und Geschwindigkeit weitgehend gerecht wird, ist die Deflektometrie. Sie ist dem menschlichen Verhalten beim Prüfen spiegelnder Oberflächen nachempfunden. Aufbauend auf dem deflektometrischen Messprinzip wurden im Rahmen dieser Arbeit Algorithmen entwickelt, welche die Planung eines deflektometrischen Messaufbaus automatisieren. Für eine präzise Messung geringer Krümmungsänderungen wurden darüber hinaus Methoden vorgestellt, welche die Phase der optischen Abbildungsfunktion analysieren. Weiterhin wurden Verfahren entwickelt, welche die punktweise Fokusänderung messen. Diese zeichnen sich durch eine hohe Geschwindigkeit aus und ermöglichen eine empfindliche Erkennung von Defekten mit geringer lateraler Ausdehnung (Blasen, Einschlüsse) in Echtzeit. Die Leistungsfähigkeit der entwickelten Verfahren wurde dabei nicht nur in Simulationen demonstriert, sondern auch an Hand von realen, industrierelevanten Oberflächen, wie Karosserieteilen, Linsen und Spiegeln.

Abstract

This work makes several contributions to the process of estimating elevation maps from side-scan sonar data: A new estimation method that recreates sonar measurements by pre-computed known sonar responses (so called kernels) and then derives a height profile from the kernels used. Additionally, a 3D method based on Markov Random Fields and a side-scan sonar simulation environment for arbitraty 3D scenes featuring different sonar modes and several terrain generators have been developed.

Abstract

Electrode microstructures of a high energy and a high power lithium-ion cell were analyzed in 3D using tomographic methods. Calculation of structural parameters enabled a quantitative comparison of the electrodes. To simulate their electrochemical behavior a finite element model was developed which, for the first time, includes a real particle size distribution. This allowed for an identification of the limiting mechanisms during charging and discharging in the electrodes of both cells.

Abstract

In robotic beating heart surgery, a remote-controlled robot can be used to carry out the operation while automatically canceling out the heart motion. The surgeon controlling the robot is shown a stabilized view of the heart. First, we consider the use of directional statistics for estimation of the phase of the heartbeat. Second, we deal with reconstruction of a moving and deformable surface. Third, we address the question of obtaining a stabilized image of the heart.

Abstract

With the Karlsruhe Heart Model (KaHMo) we aim to share our vision of integrated computational simulation across multiple disciplines of cardiovascular research, and emphasis yet again the importance of Modelling the Human Cardiac Fluid Mechanics within the framework of the international STICH study. The focus of this work is on integrated cardiovascular fluid mechanics, and the potential benefits to future cardiovascular research and the wider bio-medical community.

Abstract

This work deals with microstructural characterisation, modelling and simulation of SOFC electrodes with the goal of optimizing the electrode microstructures. Methods for a detailed electrode analysis based on focused ion beam (FIB) tomography are presented. A 3D FEM model able to perform simulations of LSCF cathodes based on 3D tomography data is shown. A model generating realistic, yet synthetic microstructures is presented that enables the optimization of microstructural characteristics.
