Abstract

"This book focuses on ""massive codesign"": the idea that multiple and/or numerous participants having different voices collaborate in a design process broken down into different steps and formats and resulting in a relevant and diversified amount of data. Services, strategies and scenarios are presented as the main field of application: these are complex items that demand complex processes be tackled, processes in which it is necessary to involve a variety of players who are largely interdependent and therefore who must collaborate in order to achieve any goal.&#xD;The book essentially makes two main contributions: a ""Collaborative Design Framework"" to identify and structure codesign activities, methods and tools within massive creative processes; a ""set of quick lessons learnt"" to provide guidance to the conception and organisation of other massive creative processes.&#xD;The whole book is oriented at practice: it discusses codesign activities from the designer's point of view, detailing issues such as process from beginning to end, activity flow, manipulability of tools, roles and rules for participants and many others. It is intended as a support for designers dealing in massive codesign processes and aims towards improved results."

Abstract

"Economic and sociological research has long shown that the widespread presence of criminal organizations in the territory is a factor that contrasts economic and social development. This is just one aspect of the complex relationship that exists between local economic dynamics and the illegal behavior of social actors. The relationship between social norms and legal norms, the quality and quantity of social capital, the bonds of trust between the actors and the legitimization of the state, the local power systems, the certainty of the sanctions, are other aspects that certainly contribute to create the conditions that favor illegal responses to the crisis.&#xD;The book seeks to highlight how legality and illegality present facets and interdependencies that can't simply be traced back to the moral categories of good and evil, but need to be analyzed in a multifactorial perspective."

Abstract

"Catastrophes and natural disasters lead to numerous problems in the education of children and teenagers, who present as the most vulnerable subjects in the communities affected. Often, in these circumstances, adults (educators, teachers, parents) do not know how to respond to their needs, reactions and feelings. What do we need to know about childhood trauma? What answers should we give to children exposed to the effects of catastrophes (mourning, destruction, widespread fears)? What educational activities might support them in their resilience? This book, born from experiences gained in the aftermath of the Amatrice earthquake in Italy in 2016, offers paths, through guidelines and educational activities, to confront together with children and teenagers post-catastrophe situations, the return to school, the intelligent management of emotions, and the maintenance of a sense of community."

Abstract

The volume contains a collection of contributions presented at the conference “INVALSI data: a tool for research”, held in Rome the 20th September 2016. On this occasion, scholars from different professional contexts (school, university, research) and selected through a call for papers presented their scientific works, using INVALSI data. The book is divided into two parts: the first part devoted to the use of INVALSI data in didactic research, the second focused on INVALSI data as a tool for supporting policy and decision makers. The eighteen chapters cover in-depth analyses that, starting from different angles and using several methodologies, offer the reader a rich and structured view of the different possible uses of the data that INVALSI gather each year.

Abstract

"With the evolution of today’s educational contexts, teacher education is becoming increasingly important into European political discussion, in relation to its ability to improve the results of student learning. The need to confront new changes clearly signifies that the professionalism of teachers cannot be limited to competencies and skills learning, however, it does require new strategic dimensions of professional activation, oriented towards better identifying personal goals and strategies to be achieved. The text re-draws the paradigm of the continuing teacher professional development by integrating the capability approach with the models of competencies. Starting from the analysis of European policies on teacher education, the text carry out an experimental research into pre-school settings to explore the importance of individual choice: throught the creation of innovative research tools and a self-training methodology, pre-school teachers involved improved their self-determine agency and better qualified professional development.&#xD;The text meets the interests of researchers, as a important contribution to rethink the topic of teacher training, also for the chosen methodological approach; for teachers, it wants to deepen the sense of educational professionalism, updated to the most recent topics and issues; finally, it meets the interests of aspiring in-training teachers or aspiring researchers for the richness of its contents, in order to inspire the elaboration of new, original research perspectives."

Abstract

"Increasing inequalities, social exclusion and poverty within the EU (although at a different scale between States) prove that the effectiveness of social rights falls behind their formal entitlements and their judicial enforceability. Beyond the classical way followed by legal studies in dealing with the issue, the focus would shift to experimental ways better able to cope with the current multifaceted implications of social exclusion, poverty and inequalities for the purpose of effective and improved social inclusion. Indeed, legacies stemming from developments at the European level (recent and less recent) are relevant not only for policy-makers and social scientists but for legal scholars too.&#xD;These latter are expected to pick up and underline the main aspects of constitutional relevance implied in the process and steer it towards being constitutionally consistent. Against this background, our claim for an interdisciplinary dialogue with social sciences focuses on the constitutional implications underlying the use of social indicators within the European governance framework."&#xD;

Abstract

Reading and dispersion constitute, in different ways, two crucial points of scholastic reality and of educational research. This book highlights the multiple cognitive and emotional effects of reading and, more generally, the different ways to prevent and combat school dropouts. Therefore the volume has a double interest: on the one hand, to help the understanding of the school dispersion and the perception that it has in the field; on the other hand, identify effective prevention and recovery interventions, with particular attention to reading aloud and narrative orientation.&#xD;
