Abstract

Value chains of bio-based chemicals are very complex. Hence, a strategic decision support tool for bioeconomic site and logistics planning is developed. It includes an integrated model and three sub-models: optimization for the locations and capacities of pretreatment plants, technical for technical and economic evaluations, risk for the evaluation of uncertainties. As a result, the model suggests a nearly optimal location and the associated logistic network for the production of biochemicals.

Abstract

The influence of foot geometry on energy efficiency in bipedal walking is investigated. A method for the optimization of the foot geometry of a bipedal robot is developed. It is based on a planar model with arbitrary convex foot geometry in combination with a hybrid zero dynamics based controller. Optimal gaits and foot geometries are determined. The average energy consumption can be reduced by more than 80% compared to a model with point feet.

Abstract

The objective of this work is to provide an efficient solution to analyze and optimize global dynamic vehicle behavior of wheel loaders in the areas of vibration comfort, vehicle dynamics and tipping safety. To quantify the vehicle&#8217;s behavior several virtual tests and maneuvers are automatically performed by a full-vehicle simulation model of the machine. The results are then analyzed and combined to provide objective measures representing the global dynamic vehicle behavior.

Abstract

In order to establish general principles in the topic of motion planning for fully-automated driving, an intuitive problem statement in the form of an Euler–Lagrange Model is derived and transformed into a corresponding Hidden Markov Model for global optimization. Geometric and topologic considerations lead to a probabilistic environment modelling in combination with the C² model and result in general conclusions about the structure of traffic situations.

Abstract

Robustly maintaining balance on two legs is an important challenge for humanoid robots. The work presented in this book represents a contribution to this area. It investigates efficient methods for the decision-making from internal sensors about whether and where to step, several improvements to efficient whole-body postural balancing methods, and proposes and evaluates a novel method for efficient recovery step generation, leveraging human examples and simulation-based reinforcement learning.

Abstract

Expansion of the phase field crystal model for multi-component mixtures, as ternary dendritic and lamellar eutectic crystallization. Comparison of crystal growth with molecular dynamics and phase field simulations. Parameters and initial data structures are used to simulate, starting from a small atom cluster to a ternary dendrites with side arms. Optimization techniques to reduce the amount of computation are developed.

Abstract

Ba$_{0,5}$Sr$_{0,5}$Co$_{0,8}$Fe$_{0,2}$O$_{3-?}$ (BSCF) is the most promising material für energy efficient oxygen separation membranes. But its electrical and transport properties are unstable at temperatures below 840 °C. Reasons are structural changes to secondary phases in the cubic lattice. By doping with Y, Ti and Nb the cubic lattice shall be stabilized. Goal of this work are analyses of the dopant’s influences on BSCF’s electrochemical properties.

Abstract

The aim of this work was the development of new image processing methods for the analysis and optimization of rotary kiln processes. It is shown how the newly developed methods can be employed to analyze certain areas and effects of rotary kiln processes. Thereby gained new process information can be used in the process control to optimize rotary kiln processes in terms of economic and environmental objectives.

Abstract

Bioluminescence tomography is a recent biomedical imaging technique which allows to study molecular and cellular activities in vivo. From a mathematical point of view, it is an ill-posed inverse source problem: the location and the intensity of a photon source inside an organism have to be determined, given the photon count on the organism's surface. To face the ill-posedness of this problem, a geometric regularization approach is introduced, analyzed and numerically verified in this book.
