Abstract

The key importance of radar remote sensing for civil applications has been recognized for decades, and enormous scientific and technical developments have been carried out to further improve SAR sensors and SAR data processing. In recent years, SAR satellite constellations, consisting of two or more satellites, are becoming the “new normal” in SAR remote sensing. The present availability of SAR sensor constellations, such as Cosmo SkyMed, TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X, and the new Copernicus sensors Sentinel-1A and 1B, supply a continuous stream of imagery with a unique short revisit cycle of only six days. Together with many more operational and planned SAR satellite systems, such as Geo-Fen 3 or NASA ISRO SAR (NISAR), this unprecedented amount of high-quality SAR data is suitable for a variety of applications, provided proper data processing methodology are applied. In "Advances in SAR: Sensors, Methodologies, and Applications" advancements in the field of hardware, software, and applications are presented, covering a wide range of topics.

Abstract

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschreibt eine neuartige Objektverfolgung durch Fusion von Radar- und Monokameradaten auf Merkmalsebene. In dieser Arbeit wird ein neues Assoziationsverfahren auf Basis der PDA-Methodik untersucht. Es wird ein Interacting Multiple Model Filter (IMMF) mit einer vollständigen, adaptiven Modellierung der Objektdynamik in Längs- und Querrichtung vorgestellt. Die Thematik Objektklassifikation sowie Gassenbreiteschätzung wird auch beleuchtet.

Abstract

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein neuartiges Systemkonzept für ein multifunktionales Radar- und Kommunikationssystem beschrieben, das es erlaubt, Radar-Sensorik und Funkkommunikation simultan und auf Basis einer gemeinsamen Sendesignalform zu realisieren. Als Sendesignalform kommen hierbei klassische OFDM-Signale zum Einsatz, die die technologische Basis vieler aktueller Funkstandards bilden. Beispielhaft wird eine Anwendung des Verfahrens im Automobilbereich betrachtet.

Abstract

In dieser Arbeit werden dual-orthogonal, linear polarisierte Antennen für die UWB-Technik konzipiert. Das Prinzip zur Realisierung der Strahler wird vorgestellt, theoretisch und simulativ untersucht, sowie messtechnisch verifiziert. Danach werden Konzepte zur Miniaturisierung der Strahler dargelegt, die anschließend zum Aufbau von Antennengruppen verwendet werden. Die Vorteile der entwickelten Antennen werden praktisch anhand des bildgebenden Radars und des Monopuls-Radars gezeigt.

Abstract

This thesis describes methods and techniques for realizing a fully integrated radar sensor in the frequency range above 100 GHz. The wavelength in the milimeter range leads to an antenna size in the range of a semiconductor die. This allows integrating antennas and a system-on-chip radar IC in a common chip package. Hence a fully integrated radio frequency system results within the chip package. This leads to a miniaturized, low-cost radar sensor for variuos applications.

Abstract

Die Datengrundlage dieser Arbeit bilden Messungen in Wolken mit einem scannenden Radar. Zur Analyse der wolkenphysikalischen Prozesse werden neuartige Verfahren entwickelt, die (i) die getrennte Betrachtung von Teilprozessen in der Schmelzschicht ermöglichen und die es (ii) erlauben, mittels einer neuen, in dieser Arbeit eingeführten Größe (""residuale Geschwindigkeit""), kleinräumige Fluktuationen in Wolken zu identifizieren und ihre dynamische Entwicklung zu beschreiben.

Abstract

The ocean covers approximately 71% of the Earth’s surface, 90% of the biosphere and contains 97% of Earth’s water. The Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) can image the ocean surface in all weather conditions and day or night. SAR remote sensing on ocean and coastal monitoring has become a research hotspot in geoscience and remote sensing. This book—Progress in SAR Oceanography—provides an update of the current state of the science on ocean remote sensing with SAR. Overall, the book presents a variety of marine applications, such as, oceanic surface and internal waves, wind, bathymetry, oil spill, coastline and intertidal zone classification, ship and other man-made objects’ detection, as well as remotely sensed data assimilation. The book is aimed at a wide audience, ranging from graduate students, university teachers and working scientists to policy makers and managers. Efforts have been made to highlight general principles as well as the state-of-the-art technologies in the field of SAR Oceanography.

Abstract

In this work new methods and criteria for the analysis of Ultra Wideband (UWB) components and systems are introduced. This permit to have a deeper insight into the component characteristics like signal distortion, ringing and dispersion, introduced by the non-ideal behavior of the UWB components over the wide frequency band. The developed analyses are the basis for correction and optimization strategies for the features of the UWB components and systems, compensating for their non-idealities.
